The CH25 Armchair, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1950, remains one of his most iconic creations, celebrated for its clean, simple form and innovative use of materials. At the time of its introduction, the chair created a stir due to Wegner’s pioneering choice of woven paper cord for the seat and backrest, a material that had not been previously used in furniture. Developed during World War II as a replacement for seagrass, paper cord proved to be both durable and non-stretching, perfectly suited for furniture making.

The CH25 Armchair’s unique seat and backrest require approximately 400 meters of paper cord and 10 hours of hand-weaving by a skilled craftsman. The intricate weaving technique, visible on both sides of the backrest, results in a chair that is not only durable but also visually striking from every angle. This meticulous craftsmanship, combined with Wegner’s visionary approach to design, has ensured that this model has remained in continuous production since its debut, standing the test of time as a modern classic.
